Tuesday Tales with Bells On!!

Ahoy Fellow Fathomers and welcome to Tuesday Tales. This week our talented group of writers has the word prompt "bells", apropos for the Christmas season, wouldn't you say? I take you now to the 3rd book in writing progress from Allee Mae's new series, The Critter Getters. The title of this one is, Finding Love in a Black Lagoon.

Let's peek in on Owen and Pearls' private conversation...

"So, what were Christmases like at your house?" Pearl kept her gaze locked on the twinkling stars above.

Owen shifted, stretched, and in one motion was lying close enough to graze her arm with his. Neither moved from their place on the blanket, but instead kept their focus on the velvety nighttime sky. "Some years good, some bad, I s'pose like anyone else."

"Do you really believe everyone has an occasional bad holiday? You gotta be joking."

"Things happen in life, Pearl. What if someone in the family dies, the first Christmas without them is tough, I can vouch for that. Maybe someone gets very sick, or someone loses their job. There are plenty of reasons a holiday isn't always a good time for folks."

"Well, I never had a decent Christmas, ever, even before my mother flaked out and died."

Owen reached over and tentatively took Pearl's hand in his own. He rubbed her smooth skin with his thumb. "Most of the time people don't choose when they die, Pearl."

"Yea, well, she could have prevented it. But, you know what? She didn't. She went in guns blazing."

"Guns blazing? I hope you don't mean literally." He squeezed her hand tightly.

"That's exactly what I meant." Pearl choked the last word out. "I'm sorry. It's springtime,I don't know why the heck I brought up Christmas."

"Maybe because we've talked about almost everything else under the sun, Pearl.I don't think we've been tongue tied since that first day we really spent time together. It's been real nice talking with you." Owen turned and faced Pearl, yet, she still stared straight up. Owen gently turned her face to his. "You can talk to me about anything, Pearl. I mean anything. Together, we will open boxes we duct taped shut a long time ago. But, sometimes, the only way to get past something is to cut the tape."

I hope Owen breaks through whatever is holding Pearl back. But now, please visit our main site for other fantastic takes on the word prompt, "bells",.
